Koniag Government Services is participating in the 2026 Alaska Regional Conference, featuring educational sessions, matchmaking, and networking opportunities for small businesses and teaming partners across multiple small business categories. Our continued involvement reflects KGS’s commitment to advancing Indigenous excellence.

KGS proudly sponsors the American Indian Science and Engineering Society (AISES) National Conference each fall, bringing together Native STEM professionals, students, and organizations to celebrate innovation, culture, and community.

We’re excited to join the 2026 AISES National Conference, October 15–17 in Portland, OR—connecting Indigenous leaders and learners through education, professional growth, and workforce development opportunities in STEM.

KGS AISES Scholarship 

  • Scholarship Includes: Conference Fee, Round Trip Airfare, Room & Board
  • Timeline: Opens June 1 – Closes July 31
  • KGS is proud to sponsor five Koniag Education Foundation (KEF) students to attend the annual American Indian Science & Engineering Society (AISES) National Conference.
  • The AISES conference is a unique, three-day event focusing on educational, professional, and workforce development for Indigenous peoples of North America and the Pacific Islands in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) studies and careers. Attendees include Indigenous high school and college students, educators and professionals, including representatives from Tribal Nations, Tribal enterprises, and Indigenous-owned businesses. The conference also includes the LARGEST college and career fair in the U.S. for Indigenous students and professionals! Exhibitors at the College and Career fair represent a diverse range of corporations, educational institutions, government agencies, nonprofit organizations, Tribes, and Indigenous-owned businesses. 

Past Recipients Highlights

2024’s five AISES students represented diverse academic paths and strong connections to Alutiiq communities. 

  • Dahlia Berns from Old Harbor, Alaska, majored in financial accounting with a minor in business administration while training as an Ayurvedic health advisor. She also works as an artist and commercial fisherwoman. 
  • Marsha Madriaga balances her role as a Payroll and Leaves Specialist with pursuing a master’s in Human Resources Strategic Management. A mother of two, she serves on the Koniag Seattle Shareholder committee and participates in her local APA pool league. 
  • Michael Nelson is an MBA student at Harvard Business School and a US Army veteran who served as a Cyber Operations officer. He holds a BA in Physics and is connected to the Alutiiq Village of Afognak through his mother’s side. 
  • James Stewman, born and raised in Anchorage, studies computer systems engineering with a math and electrical engineering minor. Of Sugpiaq, Filipino, Black, and White heritage with family from the Kodiak area, he enjoys video games and disc golf in his free time. 
  • Tia Turvey from Anchorage is completing her senior year in architecture at Texas Tech University and will graduate with her bachelor’s degree in May.

KGS offers meaningful internship opportunities supported by direct mentor/protégé partnerships for students currently enrolled in or graduating from post-secondary programs. We strive to provide a continuous learning environment that prepares our interns for advancement into increasingly challenging career roles.  

Interns at KGS gain hands-on experience at a USA Today Top Workplace, while building resume-worthy skills, growing both professionally and personally, and expanding their network through connections with fellow interns and young professionals.

We seek motivated individuals eager to expand their knowledge, gain organic experience, and contribute to the success of our companies and communities. Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in communication, attention to detail, organization, and self-motivation. Opportunities are typically available in remote, in-person, and hybrid formats.

Germaine Salmine leads Shareholder and Descendant workforce development for Koniag Government Services (KGS), creating pathways that connect talent with career opportunities throughout the organization. She specializes in matching the qualifications and ingenuity of job-seeking Shareholders and Descendants with KGS’s evolving staffing needs, fostering relationships where professional advancement and community grow together. With over a decade in the non-profit sector focused on Alutiiq and American Indian communities, Germaine combines strategic vision with grassroots understanding to bridge talent with opportunity across all career stages. 

Germaine was born in Kodiak, Alaska, and is an enrolled tribal citizen of the Tangirnaq Native Village and Shareholder of Leisnoi and Koniag. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in American Indian Studies from the University of Washington and a Master of Business Administration from Alaska Pacific University.
